Shortlist announced for 2013 Hampshire & IOW Sports Awards
The shortlist for the annual Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards has been announced with seven Olympians and Paralympians nominated among the 17 categories.
Among the nominees are Olympic Cycling Gold Medallist Dani King, Equestrian Gold Medallist Peter Charles and Paralympic Boccia Silver and Bronze Medallist David Smith. Hampshire Cricket Captain James Adams is also nominated following a successful year for the club.
Almost 200 athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, teams and clubs were put forward to receive an award – presenting the judges with the welcome challenge of drawing up the shortlist. The shortlist is now available online - www.sporthampshireiow.co.uk/sports-awards
2012 was the year of the volunteer. An army of Games Makers demonstrated to the world that sport could not happen without volunteers and the strength of this year’s nominations echoes that sentiment. Among the nominees are Olympic officials, volunteers, and coaches who work tirelessly behind the scenes to help local athletes, teams and clubs reach their potential.
The Hampshire & IOW Sports Awards is the only county-wide event to publicly reward commitment, performance and excellence across all sports. Winners will be announced at the ceremony on Wednesday 20 March at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.
We are delighted to have the support of BBC Radio Solent as well as our sponsors, local organisations Halo Conferences at Southampton Football Club, Serious Sport, Promo Logo, Toucan Design, inprint, and Coaching Hampshire & IOW.
