Under the Data Protection Act, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. We use leading technologies and encryption software to safeguard your data, and keep strict security standards to prevent any unauthorised access to it. We do not pass on your details to any third party unless you give us permission to do so or if we are required to do so by law.
What information do we collect?
We currently collect two kinds of information from visitors to www.winchester.gov.uk through emails to departments and an on-page feedback form, and site usage information, from session cookies and log files.
i) Leaving feedback on individual pages using the section at the foot of the page
This feedback section is designed for you to comment on individual pages to help us make improvements. We do not guarantee a formal response when you use this method. If you require a response please use our Report It system.
iI) Comments and questions
If you send an email asking for information, we may pass your personal details to another Department of the Council to reply direct to you. If your question is technical, we may need to pass it to our technology suppliers. We do not pass any of your personal information to third parties when dealing with your enquiry, unless you have given us permission to do so.

Winchester City Council puts together log file information from all our visitors, which we use to make changes to the layout of the site and to the information in it, based on the way that visitors move around it.
