90th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II
HM Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 90th birthday in 2016.
Thursday 21 April marked her 90th birthday, and the official annual celebration of her birthday took take place on Saturday 11 June. The people of the Winchester District are never slow to respond to such occasions, and we have already seen scores of community litter picks, street parties, concerts and other special events in honour of The Queen at 90.
You can still have fun celebrating this special year. For example:
•Plan a street party: Winchester City Council staff can help with any questions. The Council will arrange temporary road closure orders free of charge and will also supply a complimentary ‘Road Closed for the Queen’s 90th Birthday’ sign for your use.
• Encourage your charity, sports club or other voluntary organisations to apply for a grant from the Council to support a special project or initiative to mark the year.
• Organise a community clear-up in your neighbourhood: you can do this at any time of year. Contact the Council for help and information about how to plan a successful event.
• Continue the celebrations throughout 2016 with Hampshire Cultural Trust. There are a variety of events, exhibitions and activities taking place around Hampshire to celebrate the county’s royal connections. You can find out more about what's happening here.
