New council housing - Abbotts Barton
Initial work has begun to develop ideas for the sites at Dyson Drive and Charles Close. There is a Town and Village Green application for Dyson Drive awaiting a decision so any future development will be subject to the outcome of that process. There will be opportunities for the community to comment and contribute to the development of ideas for these two sites early in 2018, prior to the submission of any planning application.
The 13 new homes at Hiller Way achieved planning permission in Feburay 2016 and started on site during September 2016. More details can be found on the Hiller Way page here.
The Planning Framework
The Abbotts Barton Planning Framework was produced in 2013 and took into account feedback from the two consultation events as well as various surveys undertaken in the area including topographical, environmental, historical etc.

The Planning Framework was approved by Cabinet (Housing Delivery) Committee Members on 27th February 2013. The housing sites in the Framework have been included in the draft Local Plan Part 2. However only around 37 homes, rather than 50 homes are likely to be delivered in the short to medium term. These include the dwellings at Hillier Way; and new homes at Dyson Drive, Hussey Close, Austin Close and the south east end of Charles Close.
Due to the number of local people wishing to see the new housing provided on the area of scrub land behind the car park near the football club, a Planning Report was prepared by an independent external Planning Consultant to assess whether this area was suitable for housing development. A copy of the Report is available to download at the bottom of this page.
There is an appetite locally to develop a community plan and we are supporting the Abbotts Barton Community Group in doing this. The community plan will highlight a number of positive enhancements sought by the community to improve the quality of life in Abbotts Barton.
