New council housing - Kiln Cottages, Spring Vale, Swanmore

Mapledean started on site in late summer 2015 to build two, three bedroom five person homes for affordable rent for Winchester City Council.

The 3 bedroom houses have been built on a brownfield site of redundant garden land in Spring Vale, Swanmore. The properties have also been built to Lifetime Homes standard. This means the homes can support the changing needs of families through flexible design which also allows for future adaptations. They are adjacent to the village hall and very close to the recreation ground and other local amenities.

The new properties will be owned and managed by Winchester City Council.

Planning permission

Following consultation in March and pre-application advice, some minor amendments were made to the proposal before the sucessful planning application (please see plans available to download at the bottom of this page). This involved:

  • The addition of a central bay window on the New Road elevation and the first floor bedroom window centralised
  • Reduction in the ridge height

The planning application was granted in January 2015.

These homes, known as Kiln Cottages, were completed at the end of March 2016.

The two dwellings were advertised for affordable rent on Hampshire Home Choice from Wednesday 17th February – Sunday 21st February 2016.

New council homes are allocated through Hampshire Home Choice. For further information, and to register, please visit: www.hampshirehomechoice.org.uk
