Waterworks Open Day & Wildlife Tours at Twyford Waterworks
Sun 07/08/16 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Twyford first started pumping water over 100 years ago, during the Edwardian era. This Open Day will commemorate those days, looking back to the times when everything was worked by steam, and looking forward as well to when the boiler and steam pumping engine will be working again.
Enjoy an informative stroll around the Waterworks with everything fully open, restored machinery in operation and meet the volunteers who will be on hand to explain how it all used to work.
Learn all about the progress they are making to restore the boilers and steam pumping engine!
Join a free guided tour to find out all about the waterworks, and how it’s developed over the last 100 years.
Discover the lime kilns up above the main works, where you can also watch the industrial narrow gauge railway at work. Follow the nature trail around the site and see what you can spot!
