The Anarchy - historical re-enactment
Sat 09/07/16 11:00 AM - Sun 10/07/16 4:00 PM
The year is 1141, King Stephen is warring with his cousin Empress Matilda for the throne of England in The Anarchy, the lawless civil war that was to grip the country until 1154. In what became known as the Rout of Winchester, the forces of the imprisoned King fought on the city's streets to defeat Matilda and return Stephen to the throne.
Starting at Winchester Cathedral then moving through the streets to the City Museum, Westgate Museum and finishing at the Great Hall, you can watch the militia training, find out how knights actually fought and see what weapons the soldiers of The Anarchy period would have used in this rousing re-enactment.
A fun and free day out.
