Winchester Beacon Lighting Ceremony
Thu 21/04/16 6:00 pm
Join the long tradition of celebrating royal occasions with the lighting of beacons as part of a national ‘chain’ on Thursday 21 April.
The official Winchester beacon will be lit by the Round Table at the University of Winchester West Downs Campus, in the presence of the Mayor of Winchester.
The lighting of beacons is a long and unbroken tradition in our country to celebrate Royal jubilees, weddings, coronations and special birthdays. The Winchester Beacon will be one of hundreds being lit across the country - on top of mountains, churches and castle battlements, on town and village greens, farms, country parks and estates, and along the beaches surrounding our shores. The Winchester Beacon – which will be located on the tower of the University of Winchester West Downs Centre – will be seen from right across Hampshire.
This event is a joint celebration between the University of Winchester, Winchester City Council and Winchester Round Table .
The event will be open to the public and free to attend, but tickets are limited and must be booked online at www.winchester.ac.uk/Queens90th
