Mayfest 2017

Planning for the 2017 event is underway but is expected to be similar to previous years, as below.

Mayfest is a celebration of dance, music and song, in venues across the historic city of Winchester, performances include:

- Dance 'sides', consisting of different types of Morris dance, sword dancing, clog dancing and Appalachian dancing. This will take place in the High St, Cathedral Close and St Maurice's Covert

-Ticklish Allsorts childrens entertainment in the Cathedral Close

-Maypole dancing with Cygnets playgroup at lunchtime in the Cathedral Close

-Winchester Musicals and Operatic Society performing excerpts from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', in the Covert

-In St Lawrence's Church: Bella Voce youth choir, Barton Stacey choir and Southampton Folk Orchestra

-A mass dance for the public to join in, probably straight after the Mayor's show 

- A ceilidh in the evening at the Winchester Guildhall. This will be run by SHOCC - English Ceilidh in the South and will have Lisa Purkiss calling to the music of Threepenny bit. More information can be found at www.shocc.co.uk
