Fantastic Folk comes to Winchester
Sat 21/11/15 7:00 pm
November 21st sees an exciting new event at the University of Winchester. In collaboration with Winchester Folk Club, Foundation Music, the extra-curricular music department, are hosting a folk evening at The Vault on Sparkford Road.
The headlining act will be triple nominated BBC Radio 2 Folk Award band Mawkin. They will be supported by Ian Brown, performing courtesy of Winchester Folk Club and Gleeman folk choir from Foundation Music at the University.
Since their formation in 2002, Mawkin have grown into one of brit-folks brightest new guns: a blistering 5-piece band fusing folk, blues and rock, they are no strangers to the cutting edge of the contemporary music scene while still reigning all the verve and mystique of ancient folk music traditions from across the globe. Forged out of the electric partnership of brothers James and David Delarre, Mawkin are a concoction of brilliantly inventive musicianship and uninhibited energy.
“We’re really excited to be hosting this event and hope it will be well supported. We have over 200 students at the university who are part of music groups and by bringing in some young professionals we hope show them possible career paths.” Said Vicky Feldwick, Manager of Foundation Music. “It’s also a great chance to work with local musicians and organisation and to invite the people of Hampshire to the campus to have a fantastic evening.
