Climate Change
Climate Change is the most serious environmental challenge facing us in the 21st Century. Over the past few years this issue has become more obvious and the need to take action more pressing.
The City Council is leading on the creation of a climate change plan for the Winchester District. The plan, "Live for the Future: Tackling Climate Change", was published in December 2007, this can be viewed by clicking on the relevant button below.
Everyone has a part to play in tackling Climate Change. A useful starting point is to measure your individual carbon footprint, and look for some of the simple measures you can take to start lowering it. You can also consider joining Winchester Action on Climate Change, a coalition of organisations and individuals working to encourage others to take action on climate change.
- Register with Switch Hampshire This is a collective energy switching service being coordinated by Hampshire County Council that could mean lower household bills for gas and electricity
- Climate Change Plan This plan for the district is a local response to the climate change issue and sets out what we want to achieve.
- Council Energy and Carbon Management We recognise the importance of managing CO2 emissions from our own estate and operations.
- Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC) WinACC was formed in 2007 as a coalition of organisations and citizens with the principal aim to encourage and advise households and organisations in the district to reduce their carbon footprints.
