Destination Management Plan

VisitEngland, the national tourism body, is encouraging destinations to produce 5-year Destination Management Plans to protect and advance the interests of domestic tourism across England.

Winchester City Council has worked with East Hampshire District Council, the South Downs National Park, Tourism South East and Hampshire County Council to draft a Plan in consultation with local tourism businesses. This plan will form a live action framework to track activity and where possible align local developments with the interests of the industry in Winchester and the Hampshire area of the South Downs.

We are inviting comments from members of the public and,

  • Destination Management Partnership members;
  • Visit Winchester and South Downs visitor guide and website advertisers;
  • Hampshire Hospitality Award winners;
  • Members of Winchester BID;
  • Winchester City Council's elected Members;
  • Tourism businesses across the Winchester and East Hampshire districts and the Hampshire area of the South Downs National Park.

To view the current version of the Plan please download the documents below. Please send your comments via email to, write to Ellen Simpson, Head of Tourism, Winchester City Council, Colebrook Street, SO23 9LJ.

The final plan will be released on the new Visit Winchester website in the summer of 2014 and reviewed and renewed annually.
