The number of households that did not have access to car fell from 6,768 to 6,705 just under 10% between 2001 and 2011, whilst those with access to 3 or more cars rose from 4,484 to 5,720 an increase of 27.6%.
The average number of cars per household for England and Wales is 1.17 and for the South East it is 1.35. The figure for Winchester is 1.5 cars per household. Only three other districts in Hampshire have a higher ratio (Test Valley 1.52; East Hampshire 1.63 and Hart 1.71, the highest ratio in England & Wales)
