Your chance to run the annual 'Continental Shifts' festivities

Winchester City Council is looking for an imaginative and energetic project manager. The role is needed to co-ordinate a four week programme of early evening activities and events on Fridays in Winchester City Centre.

Continental Shifts is a shared initiative between Winchester City Council and the Winchester Business Improvement District, designed to create a buzz in the centre of the town at what is often a quiet time at the end of the working day.

Last year's events saw local workers and residents relaxing with live music, street theatre and dance acts. This year we want the project manager to arrange for more entertainment, and add in other aspects such as local food and drink.

Cllr George Beckett, Leader of Winchester City Council, said:

"We are keen to boost the early evening economy in Winchester. This initiative met with real enthusiasm when we arranged evening activities in the past. It not only benefits our catering establishments and those traders who choose to stay open for a few extra hours, but it also creates a welcoming and relaxing ambiance for local residents to spend time in the City with their family and friends."

Eloise Appleby, Head of Economic and Cultural Services at Winchester City Council is keen to appoint an inspired project manager:

"We are looking for a programmer who can work largely on their own initiative, but also keep us well informed of progress and involve plenty of interesting performers, as well as working closely with local partner organizations to deliver a really special summer of entertainment. We need to have arrangements for the evening activities in place well in advance, and we want are all keen to see something new and different, reflecting Winchester's place as a creative centre in the South East."

Keith Wilson of Winchester BID said:

"It is critical that we take advantage of this important opportunity to increase trade during the crossover period between the daytime and evening economy. The goal is to do so by injecting an extra bit of fun into the streets of Winchester, encouraging those eager to return home after work to spend a while soaking up the atmosphere and a range of entertaining performances."
