Crafts can be defined as arts objects which are both decorative and functional, for example glass, ceramics, pottery, textiles, silver and fine metal work, wood, weaving, furniture and art jewellery. The design or making of these objects is done by craftspeople or makers, and we sometimes hear these described as decorative or applied arts.
Winchester District is home or workplace to many gifted crafts makers and designers, including students and graduates of Winchester School of Art.
Hampshire Open Studios
Hampshire Open Studios is an annual art trail where the visiting public can meet artists in their studios and galleries.
In the week leading up to bank holiday Monday August, 250 studios, galleries, artists and art groups (in excess of 500 artists) open their doors to exhibit original artwork, give talks and demos to the visiting public. This is an amazing opportunity for you to meet professional and amateur artists who show their work in diverse venues around the county.
