Sports Grants

The city council does not operate a specific sports grants programme but can offer advice and help to endorse funding bids to other specific funding pots that are available countywide some are listed below. For more information please call the Sports and Phyiscal Activity Team on 01962 848 532.

Funding Opportunities for Clubs :-

Sportivate

Sportivate is a new National Lottery funded initiative that forms part of Sport England’s mass participation legacy programme, ‘Places, People, Play’. It plans to capture the excitement of the London 2012 Games to get teenagers and young adults more active; offering them the chance to find a sport they enjoy and one that they can continue to take part in locally on a regular basis.

Disability Sports Funding

A grant available (maximum amount of £5,000) to organisations who provide any type of short breaks activities - out of school hours activities, play schemes/youth clubs for children and young people with disabilities and/or additional needs. (This will include grants previously applied for as “Inspiring You” grants). Organisations might be specialist providers of services for children with disabilities; or providers of activities for all children who want to include children with disabilities and additional needs. Activities / events can be a series of sessions, for example a weekly sports coaching session for 10 weeks, or a one-off event aimed at raising awareness of provision or services.

Sport England

Sport England is committed to helping people and communities across the country create sporting habits for life.Funding Opportunities for Coaches :-

This means investing in organisations and projects that will get more people taking up and continuing to play sport and creating opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport.

In addition to our investment in key partners to deliver specific objectives, we are launching funding programmes open to a wide range of organisations. These include sports clubs, voluntary or community organisations, local authorities, schools, colleges and universities.

Coach, Official & Volunteer Scholarship Scheme

If you are a coach currently practicing with a Level 1 or 2 qualification and are looking to progress further to UKCC Levels 2 and 3 you may be eligible to apply for the coach bursary scheme operated by Sport Hampshire & IOW. The scheme will fund Level 2 & 3 coaching qualifications assuming candidates meet certain requirements. The application must be endorsed by a lead officer which should be either the local authority Sports Development Officer or National Governing Body Officer.
