Local authorities have a requirement to prepare a Strategy which sets out how the area will develop in a sustainable way over the period of the strategy. It identifies the important issues for an area, to be addressed through the work of the Council and its partners.
The original Community Strategy was adopted in 2004, with updates in 2007 and 2010. The current Strategy runs from 2014 to 2017. Many projects and programmes have been delivered and work continues with partners and outside agencies.
The Strategy is delivered via a series of Portfolio Plans and these have been created to reflect the Administration of the Council and provide direct links between the priority outcomes, objectives and Portfolio Holder responsibilities.
The Council has reviewed the Strategy that sets out a revised set of outcomes for the coming three years and are focussed on five key areas. The new Strategy will enable the Council to reshape its activities and resources to align with the new outcomes contained within it.
A period of public consultation on the draft Strategy was undertaken between the 8 December 2016 and 13 January 2017. The feedback from the consultation can be found on the Council's Citizenspace pages.
The new Council Strategy covering the period 2017 to 2020 was adopted by Council at its meeting on 23 February 2017.
