Homecheck Under 5s Scheme
A scheme is currently running to provide a home visit to eligible households with young children where there are concerns of the possibility of home accidents occurring.
The objective is to identify potential safety hazards, offer advice and to arrange for the provision and fitting of simple and effective safety measures or devices. Families in receipt of recognised benefits, including, income support, housing benefit, council tax benefit (not the single persons discount) child tax credit (total income less than £15,000 pa) will be eligible.
The officer will upon referral or request, undertake a home survey and discuss with the parents whether any accident prevention measures are required and will recommend the appropriate action/s that should be taken.
Examples of safety measures that may be installed for eligible households are; staircase safety gates; electric socket protectors; non-slip bath mats; sharp corner protectors; cupboard locks; window stays.
For those household not eligible, they can request or download a 'self assessment' form which gives guidance and advice on childrens home safety.
The Scheme aims to help reduce the level of home accidents affecting young children and to encourage safe and sensible practices within the home to ensure that 'accidents don't just happen'.
