History of the Olympics in England
2012 bring the Olympic Games to London for the third time. In this interview, sports historian Dr Martin Polley explores the evolution of the Games over the last century and digs a little deeper to trace a 400 year 'Olympic' heritage in Britain. Dr Polley reveals some fascinating facts and stories in this twenty minute interview Winchester City Council's Head of Cultural Services, Eloise Appleby.
This podcast is the first in a series by the City Council designed to provide a local view of the 2012 Games. Dr Polley, who is currently researching a book for English Heritage on the Olympics, is a senior lecturer at the University of Southampton and lives in Winchester.
