Project Background

The Winchester Outdoor Sports Centre is a project involving The University of Winchester, Winchester City Council, and local sports clubs to provide an 8-lane athletics track, all weather turf pitch suitable for hockey and football and an extended pavilion at Bar End.

Since September 2005, representatives from Winchester City Council, The University of Winchester, Sport Hampshire & IOW, National Governing Bodies and local sports clubs have been meeting regularly to develop the concept of an Outdoor Sports Centre at Bar End looking at all aspects of the project.

The new facilities are now open for bookings from community sports teams, local schools and the wider community. The University of Winchester manage the facilities on a day to day basis through a management agreement with the city council and other funding partners.
