Winchester District Sport and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA)
In November 2006 Sport England launched The Delivery System for Sport. An integral element of the new delivery system is the creation of Community Sports Networks (CSN's).
Community Sports Networks are a network of local deliverers from a range of organisations and agencies all with a contribution to make to the delivery of sport and active recreation. The Community Sports Networks are responsible for identifying local priorities and appropriate initiatives to increase the number of people participating in sport and physical activity in a local area.
Winchester's Community Sports Network was established in July 2006 and is The Winchester District Sport and Physical Activity Alliance.
The Winchester District Sport and Physical Activity Alliance Advisory Board is made up of key local organisations all with an interest in sport and physical activity and includes representatives from Winchester City Council, Sport Hampshire & IOW, DC Leisure, Sparsholt College, Hampshire Primary Care Trust, Winchester Area Community Action, Hampshire County Council, Winchester District Community Safety Partnership, The University of Winchester, Toynbee School Sport Partnership and the Forestry Commision.
To date the alliance have produced a Sport and Physical Activity Strategy which sets out a vision for the future of the Winchester District over the next 6 years and a yearly action plan which runs from April 2007 - April 2008. Copies of the strategy and yearly action plan can be downloaded from the bottom of the page.
