Sports Grants
The city council does not operate a specific sports grants programme but can offer advice and help to endorse funding bids to other specific funding pots that are available countywide some are listed below. For more information please call the Sports Development Team on 01962 848532.
Funding Opportunities for Clubs :-
Community Chest Scheme - If you are a sports club looking for financial assistance can apply to the city council's Community Chest Scheme, where a grant of up to £500 is available for one-off pieces of expenditure if projects or activities meet the priorities of the scheme. Return to Sport - If you are a sports club who wish to extend your current provision and develop new sections within your club or are a person who is seeking to start a new club the Return to Sport scheme could help to kick start this for you. The scheme, funded by Sport Hampshire & IOW can provide up to £500 for the development of a 10 week program that aims to engage with people who have dropped out or never played a specific sport before. Wellbeing Fund - If you are a club looking to reduce gaps in provision for the most socially, economically and geographically excluded individuals and groups the wellbeing fund could help you to develop a project that engages people in sport or physical activity. The funding can provide up to £1,000 and must meet specific priorities. Read more about the Winchester Sport and Physical Activity Alliance's Wellbeing Fund.
Sportsmatch Programme - This Sport England funding stream will be available again from December 2009 fo activities taking place in the financial year of 2010/2011. Sportsmatch offers pound for pound match funding to investments made by businesses, trusts & individuals into projects that encourage sports participation at grass roots level. Funding Opportunities for Coaches :-
Coach, Official & Volunteer Scholarship Scheme - If you are a coach currently practicing with a Level 1 or 2 qualification and are looking to progress further to UKCC Levels 2 and 3 you may be eligible to apply for the coach bursary scheme operated by Sport Hampshire & IOW. The scheme will fund Level 2 & 3 coaching qualifications assuming candidates meet certain requirements. The application must be endorsed by a lead officer which should be either the local authority Sports Development Officer or National Governing Body Officer. Funding Opportunities for Volunteers :-
Vinspired Scheme - This is a national lead scheme that can grant up to £2,500 for a group of 4 young people aged 16-25 who wish to deliver a project as volunteers that benefits a target group in the community. The money cannot pay for salaries but can be used to pay for training costs and equipment purchases, amongst other things. The Wellbeing Fund & Return to Sport funds are also applicible to volunteers and volunteer groups too.
