Healthy Schools
The National Healthy Schools programme is a long term initiative which is making a difference to the health and achievement of children and young people. The programme supports the links between health, behaviour and achievement and is about creating healthy and happy children and young people, who do better in learning and in life.
The programme is based on a whole-school approach to physical and emotional well-being and focuses on four core themes:
- Personal, Social & Health Education
- Healthy Eating
- Physical Activity
- Emotional Health & Wellbeing
The aims of the National Healthy Schools Programme are:
- To support children and young people in developing healthy behaviour
- To help raise pupil achievement
- To help to reduce health inequalities
- To promote social inclusion
Healthy Schools Target
The Government has set a target that all schools will be participating in the National Healthy Schools Programme by 2009 and that 75 percent of schools will have achieved National Healthy School Status.
