Events at Meadowside Leisure Centre

The Meadowside Leisure Centre has various events happening throughout the year.

What's planned for 2008 - Tennis competitions, larger netball competition, summer football tournament, larger summer football league night, Whiteley Art Society Art Show 2008, Taekwondo tournaments and many morning walks. Please keep an eye on this page for more information and details as they become available.

2008 -
Football competition 12th July 2008 cost £40 per team. Closing date for team entry is 29th June. The event will start at 10am. Trophies available for the winners and runners up. For booking forms or more information please contact the Meadowside Leisure Centre on 01489 577464.

Netball competition held on the 12th July 2008 cost £30 per team, beginners and established teams welcome as two seperate competitions will be running. Start time 11am. For booking forms or more information please contact the Meadowside Leisure Centre on 01489 577464.

If you are interested in helping out umpiring or refereeing for the competitions please get in contact with Matt at the Meadowside Leisure Centre.

Football League night started on the 2nd June and will run for the next 7 weeks. After a very close finish last year where goal difference decided the final result, we hope this years competition will go to the wire as well.

PAST EVENTS - 2007

Table Top Sale
The first table top sale was held on the 11th November. This is a great opportunity to come along and grab a bargin in time for Christmas and also turn out all those unwanted items. If you would like to sell at this event you will need to book a table costing £10.00, by contacting the Meadowside reception.

Whiteley Art Society - Art Show
The Whiteley Art Society Annual Art Exhibition was held at the centre on the 27th and 28th October 2007. It was a great success last year, with many visitors and a wide range of art work was on display from many local artists. This years display saw more artists displaying their art and far more visitors than the 2006 display. It is hoped that the 2008 display can be much bigger.

Netball 2007
Competition - Meadowside saw its third annual tournament held at the centre on 14th July 2007. Where local club sides, novice teams and local business teams played to win the trophy. Congratulations to the 2007 club winners the JHC Cougars and to the novice winners Twisted Pairs based at Swanmore, with the runners up being 7 Wonders in the club competition and JHC Pumas in the novice competition. A big thank you to the umpires and staff that helped out on the day for all your hard work and time provided to make the tournament the success that it was. I hope you all enjoyed the tournament and are looking forward to the 2008 competition.

Football 2007
Competition - Meadowside held its third annual tournament on the 14th July 2007. Following the success of the previous two years where Burridge AFC have been the winners of both. 2007 saw lots of new competition and included teams from the centre users, local businesses and local football teams. Well done to the teams from Warsash Wasps, Blues AFC, Salturns and NATS (National Air Traffic Control) for progressing into the quarter final stage. Congratulations to the teams from Salturns as their three teams were successfull in getting through to the semi final stages with Warsash B. Bullets, based at Salturns were the eventual winners battling their way past the Winning 7 also from salturns in the final. Well done to all who took part and a big thank you to Warsash Wasps who provided the barbeque and refreshments for the day. I hope you all enjoyed the event and will be back next year to compete for the Meadowside European Trophy.

Taekwondo
The Meadowside Centre saw one of its annual national taekwondo tournaments on the 28th April 2007. A well attended tournament with a good competitive spirit. On the 7th October 2006 the Meadowside Centre saw an International competition where 90 competitors from around Europe competed. This event is hoped to be run annually. The next tournament will be held at the centre on the 4th August 2007.

Tennis
American style tennis tournament - Due to lack of interest so far this competition has not taken off, however it is hoped that this event can run in the summer of 2008. If you are interested in taking part, please contact the Meadowside Centre and register your interest, leaving your contact details and please watch this space for more details.

Meadowside Fun Day
The first Meadowside fun day was held on 10th September 2006. Events for members and their families included egg and spoon, 3 legged and a obstacle course. The centre bouncy castle was also around for all to enjoy. Members and Meadowside staff also enjoyed a game of rounders, and really enjoyed the day that was well attended. Following the success of this event it is hoped that it will be able to continue next summer.
