Chance Archaeology and Metal Detector Finds

If you have discovered an unusual object, Winchester Museums' experts can provide a free identification service. Bring the object to theCity Museum, where the specialist staff will try to identify it, and where possible provide you with additional information. Alternatively e-mail an image to museums@winchester.gov.uk. We will inform you when our research has been completed, and when you can collect your object. We do not give commercial valuations.
All the finds identified that qualify will be recorded onto the Portable Antiquities Scheme Database. For further information please follow this link www.finds.org.uk
In the latest e-Newsletter 'Review 5' Robin Iles describes an intriguing item, a lekythos, kept in an old shoe box and, possibly, well-connected.
