Arts Funding

Funds for the arts are available from various sources, but demand is very high. Winchester City Council hosts regular information events and seminars for fund-raisers, has a policy for funding arts activity through capital (buildings and equipment) and revenue (project and running costs). • Hampshire County Council (www.hants.gov.uk/grants)

• Arts Council England (www.artscouncil.org.uk/funding/index.php) provides grants for artists and arts organisations.

• Awards for All (lottery distributor) (www.awardsforall.org.uk/england/index.html) provides grants up to £10,000 for arts projects which benefit local communities.

• Big Lottery Fund (www.biglotteryfund.org.uk)

• National Foundation for Youth Music (www.youthmusic.org.uk) distributes lottery money to music based arts projects working with young people from birth to 25 years of age.

• Jerwood Charitable Foundation (www.jerwood.org) provides funding for a wide range of arts based activities from circuses to literature.

• Paul Hamlyn Foundation (www.phf.org.uk) funds arts projects that address issues of inequality and disadvantage, particularly in relation to young people.

• Esmée Fairbairn Foundation (www.esmeefairbairn.org.uk) funds arts projects which "serve audiences" and "support artists".

• Clore Duffield Foundation (www.cloreduffield.org.uk) has an emphasis on supporting children, young people and vulnerable individuals.

• Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (www.gulbenkian.org.uk) supports the development of new art-making in any art form.

• Baring Foundation (www.baringfoundation.org.uk) provides funding for arts based programmes; guidelines for each year's grant-making appear on its website.

• Trusthouse Charitable Foundation Grants Programme (UK) (www.trusthousecharitablefoundation.org.uk) works with charities and not-for-profit organisations that are active in the fields of Health Care and Disability; Community Support and the Arts and Education are able to apply for funding through the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation.

• Think Big (UK) (www.o2thinkbig.co.uk) is an award scheme created by The Conservation Foundation and O2 who have come together to help people improve their local environment. Think Big will provide awards of up to £1,000 to local organisations and individuals to support environmental projects.

• Winchester and East Hampshire Local Action Group (www.fieldfareleader.org.uk) is otherwise known as LEADER and provides grant funding for rural businesses and communities.
