Olympic Handover Celebrations

Winchester Raises the Flag
Hundreds of people turned out for Winchester's Big Live Your Dream Picnic on Sunday 24 August to enjoy the final day of competition from Beijing and to celebrate the moment that London became the incoming host city for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A giant picnic at North Walls Recreation Ground brought families and friends together to watch the big screen action from China. A host of sports taster activities were laid on by local clubs to encourage picnickers to try a sport or test their fitness. And a group of young people was transformed into a 'junk drumming' band by experts DrumPulse, ready to accompany the Mayor of Winchester and Leader of Hampshire County Council in a procession to Winchester Guildhall to see the raising of the official handover flag.

Digital Event (DE) Photograpy provided the photography for the Big Live Your Dream Picnic Event. They took fantastic photographs throughout the day of the picnic fun and taster activities, the drumming procession, the chinese lion dance and the official handover outside the Guidhall. These photos are available to view and purchase on the official DE Photo website.

Winchester is already making a noise for 2012, but you can add to the fun by downloading a special handover ringtone commissioned from composer Hywel Davies by Team South West who have been co-ordinating handover events to the west of our district. The tone is one minute long and called jumping through hoops. Why not download it from http://ringingin.co.uk/ texting NOISE to 81088 and join our neighbours in the south west by ringing a friend's number for a minute at ?
