Winchester's Star Sailor adds to the Team GB's Pot of Gold

Winchester yachtsman Iain Percy MBE won Britain's fourth sailing gold at the 2008 Olympics with his team mate Andrew Simpson in a thrilling end to the Star class event in Qingdao.

Percy, 31, is one of Great Britain's most successful Olympic sailors, having won gold in Sydney in 2000. He was born in Southampton, but educated at Peter Symonds' College and is now a Winchester resident.

Congratulations from Winchester residents across the district, Iain and Andrew!

There were thirty five athletes from Hampshire participating in the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics in Beijing, including three from the Winchester District - Julia Beckett (swimming), Rob Moore (hockey) and - of course - Iain Percy (sailing). Read more about them below.

You can also meet Julia Beckett at the first Winchester District Sports Awards on 9th December 2008 at Winchester Guildhall. Click here for more details - and join us on the night.
