Housing/Council Tax Benefit - Appeals
It is important that if there is something you do not agree with, or if you think we have not worked out your benefit correctly, you must write and tell us.
You must write to us within one calendar month of the date on the top of your benefit letter. If you think you are not getting enough benefit, and you do not tell us within one calendar month of our original decision, we will only be able to amend your benefit from the Monday following the date we receive your letter.
You can:
- Ask us for an explanation of how your benefit has been worked out
- Ask us to reconsider our decision and change it if we think it is wrong
- Appeal against the decision. If you appeal against the decision your appeal will be heard by an independent tribunal administered by the Tribunals Service.
How do I ask for a reconsideration?
Further details can be found in the Leaflet "What can I do if I think the decision about my Housing or Council Tax Benefit is wrong" which is available below to download.
After reading the leaflet, if you decide you want to ask us to reconsider our decision, either contact the Benefits section or download the Request for Reconsideration claim form below and send it to the Benefits Section.
