Hazardous Household Waste


Hazardous household waste can be defined as any material discarded by a househould which puts human health or the environment at risk due to its chemical or biological nature.

The following are examples of hazardous household products that you might have at home.

Household Products - including white spirit, paint brush cleaners, hazardous paint products (those with orange and black hazard symbol), descalers, stain removers, drain cleaners, any household batteries, flurescent light tubes and compact flurescent lamps, glues, photographic chemicals, oven cleaners and swimming pool cleaners.

Garden Products - including pesticides, insecticides, lawn treaments, fungicides, weed killers and wood preservatives.

Car Maintenance Products - including antifreeze, brake fluid, lubricants and degreaser

For details of how you can dispose of your hazardous waste please refer to the Hazardous Waste Leaflet available below. This will give details of all Household Waste Recycling Centres licensed to accept this type of waste. It also contains details of hazardous waste not accepted at these sites and where they can be takens i.e. liquid fuel.
