Local Land Charges
The Land Charges Section is part of the City Secretary and Solicitor's Department.
The Land Charges Section provides information to solicitors and other conveyancing professionals, as part of the conveyancing process for land and property sales.
The service provides information on various matters that may affect a property. These include details of planning permissions and restrictions, highway rights and proposals, development proposals for the property, environmental health notices, and building control matters. This information is used by solicitors to advise clients, as part of the process of buying a property.
On average the section deals with around 4,000 searches a year.
Computerisation
Currently the Land Charges Service operates on a mainly manual basis but the Council is in the process of computerising the Land Charges system.
National Land and Information Service
The Council has signed up to NLIS (National Land & Information Service) level two.
