Local Land Charges
General Information
The Land Charges Department provides information to solicitors and other conveyancing professionals, as part of the conveyancing process for land and property sales.
The service provides information on various matters that may affect a property. These include details of planning permissions and restrictions, highway rights and proposals, development proposals for the property, environmental health notices, and building control matters. This information is used by solicitors to advise clients, as part of the process of buying a property.
On average the section deals with around 4,000 searches a year and our turnaround time for a search is approximately 8 working days.
Also, any person may request a personal search and veiw only the Local Land Charges Register free of charge.

Computerisation
The Land Charges Service is now computerised, backed up by existing manual records.
Requesting a Search
There are three ways to request a search:-
Post
You can send your request along with the fee ( cheque only made payable to Winchester City Council) by post to Land Charges Department, Winchester City Council, Colebrook Street, Winchester, SO23 9LJ.

National Land and Information Service
The Council has signed up to NLIS (National Land & Information Service) level two .
