Supported Tenancies


If you have difficulty managing your tenancy and you are a Winchester City Council tenant, then our Supported Tenancy Service may be able to help you.

The aim of the Supported Tenancy Service is to help vulnerable tenants maintain their independence and improve their quality of life.

What is a Supported Tenancy?

If you agree to Tenancy Support, the Supported Housing team will become responsible for the management of your tenancy.
They will provide support workers in partnership with voluntary sector agencies like:

The service will become the first point of contact in order to resolve any issues with your tenancy.

Our partner agencies have been chosen for their specialist knowledge and their support can be provided for a short period or long term, depending on your needs.

Who will the service help?

The Supported Tenancy Service will help:

  • People with mental health problems
  • Families under pressure
  • Substance mis-users
  • Care leavers
  • Vulnerable young people
  • People with learning difficulties
  • People with physical disabilities
  • People who are blind or deaf
  • Ex-offenders with support needs
  • Vulnerable older people, where specialist help is needed

Do I qualify for Tenancy Support?

You will qualify for Tenancy Support if you:

  • Have an identifiable support need
  • Are vulnerable
  • Have difficulty coping with your tenancy
  • Have difficulty living independently
  • Are willing to let us help you

How do I apply for the service?

Simply call 01962 848289 and ask to speak to Lesley.

Alternatively you can ask:

  • Your Area Housing Manager
  • The Housing Needs section
  • Social Services
  • Your GP
  • Voluntary organisations or other outside agencies.

All these people can be asked to make a referral on your behalf.
