Council Estates - Parking

Most of the City Council's housing and estates was designed and built to cope with far fewer vehicles than we have on the road today. While everyone values the convenience and freedom of their cars, so much traffic has the potential to cause severe problems to neighbours and other residents as well as damaging the local estates.

The following rules are designed to preserve the quality of the local environment for all our residents.

  1. You must not park any vehicle on any part of the estate or block where your home is (including the garden of your home) except in a garage or other place approved by us. You must not park anywhere that would obstruct emergency services.
  2. You must not park an illegal, untaxed or unroadworthy vehicle on the land around your home or on the road or on any communal hard standing, parking bay or forecourt or anywhere else on the estate.
  3. You must not park any trade vehicle or commercial vehicle of greater than three and a half ton gross weight on any communal hard standing, parking bay or forecourt or in the driveway or garden of your home or anywhere else on the estate, unless you have our written permission. Failure to obtain permission amounts to a breach of the Tenancy Conditions.
  4. You must not park any caravan, boat or trailer on any communal hard standing, parking bay or forecourt or anywhere else on the estate, unless you have our written permission.
  5. You must not carry out major car repairs on the land around your home or on the road.

There is also the matter of basic consideration of other residents for owners of any vehicle: Here are some guidelines which will help keep inconvenience to others to a minimum:

Cars

  • Don't rev the engine excessively, or leave the vehicle with the engine running for long periods.
  • Close doors quietly.
  • Use the car horn only for emergencies.
  • Keep music levels down, keep windows closed.
  • Drive quietly in built up areas - don't drive / brake fiercely.

Motorcycles

  • Don't speed around streets in groups.
  • Don't ride on open spaces near houses - in some areas special tracks are provided, use these instead.
  • Keep the machine properly silenced and don't rev the engine or drive/brake fiercely.

Vehicle repairs

  • If possible carry out work in a garage.
  • Carry out necessary noisy operations during the day and avoid Sundays.
  • Don't rev the engine for long periods.
  • Don't repair anyone else's car.
