Home Improvement Agency
The City Council are working in partnership with In Touch Support to provide this service.
The aim of the Service is to assist vulnerable households and tenants who are in reciept of a recognised benefits, living in poor or unsuitable houses to repair, improve or adapt their homes.
The important relationship between poor housing and ill health is well documented. The direct link between cold, damp or poorly equipped housing and a range of causes of illness and premature deaths is clearly established. Elderly, frail and vulnerable people have the highest incidents of home accidents because poor housing is occupied to a disproportionate extent by single, older people.
The core functions of the Home Improvement Agency is;
- To help older, disabled or vulnerable people to remain independent in their own homes by identifying necessary repairs, improvements or adaptations; finding suitable contractors and ensuring the work is properly carried out.
- To help people access public resources including home improvement grants where available.
- To help people make use of other sources of funding through information on loans, equity release, or other forms of financing.
