Household Waste - Collection
It is the responsibility of Winchester City Council to collect refuse from households throughout the district. We currently contract Serco to provide this service on our behalf.
Refuse collection day
Find out which day your bins are collected: Enter your postcode or street address in Local View to find out details about your area. Or you can call the Recycle for Winchester Team on 0800 008 60 50.
Collection calendars for 2008 can be downloaded
Bank Holiday Collections:
- collections due on a Good Friday will take place on that day as a normal Friday
- when a bank holiday falls on a Monday (Easter, Spring, Summer) all collections for that week will be delayed by one day (including Friday's collection which will take place on Saturday)
- householders will be advised of Christmas and New Year collections at the beginning of December
To ensure that your waste is collected please place the bin at the premise boundary nearest the street by 7.00am on collection day.
The wheeled bin should not be left out except on the day of collection and should never obstruct the public footpath or highway.
If you are disabled or infirm and have difficulty in putting you bins out for collection then please contact us for assistance.
Excess refuse is not collected as part of the normal collection service except at Christmas when small amounts only will be taken. Householders can use one of the Household Waste Recycling Centres if required.
Under no circumstances should liquid waste be disposed of in wheeled bins whether in a container or otherwise. Refuse collection vehicles are not leak-proof! Most types of household waste such as oil and paint can be disposed of at Household Waste Recycling Centres.
A special collection service is available for the disposal of bulky items (such as fridge freezers) or larger quantities of household and garden waste. For further information or a quote, telephone Serco on 01962 828 402.
Winchester City Council is a partner in Project Integra - Hampshire's integrated waste management strategy for the next 25 years. To find out more about Project Integra visit the website at www.integra.org.uk
