West of Waterlooville - Planning permission
On June 26 Winchester City Council and Havant Borough Council resolved to grant outline planning permission for the southern part of the West of Waterloville Major Development Area.
The development will provide 1550 dwellings (including affordable units), 12.5 hectares of employment land, 85 live/work units, land for commercial uses, a primary school, local centre, allotments, cemetery, open space, recreation play areas and associated access and infrastructure.
This follows the resolution by both Councils on 30 November 2006 to grant outline planning permission on land to the north west of this site, which forms the northern part of the Major Development Area. This proposal included 450 dwellings, 24 live/work units and land for employment, retail, food and drink, professional and health, open space/recreational purposes and associated access and infrastructure.
Both developments are subject to planning conditions and obligations, and work is ongoing on these. The applications represent the culmination of many years of negotiations between both local authorities and the applicants and other bodies, and are an excellent example of successful joint working between Havant Borough Council and Winchester City Council.
This will of course continue with the ongoing negotiations on conditions and obligations, and once the development commences, to ensure that the quality of development that has been proposed is achieved.
