Carbon Management Programme

We were selected as one of 26 councils to take part in 2005 in the Carbon Trust's carbon management programme, which is the first element of our work on a Climate Change Plan.

We have assessed the amount of energy we use in our buildings and travel to find out where we can cut back on carbon emissions. This is a long-term project and forms part of the council's priorities covering sustainability and its green agenda on the environment.

The programme follows a five-step process to collect data on our current emissions; determine the case for action; identify and evaluate emission reduction opportunities, produce a strategy and implementation plan, and then put this into action.

We have produced a strategy and implementation plan and are now working on the actions. We have also updated the baseline for 2005/06.
