Business survey offers chance to shape future services

Winchester City Council has published an online survey to find out what services local businesses want the Council to provide.

The short questionnaire, available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/35CZPHJ asks a series of questions about how businesses currently interact with the Council and what they want to see in future.

Survey tick boxThis is a chance for local business to make clear their needs from the Council for the future. Following on from a workshop held in December to discuss Council budgets and priorities for wider Council spend, the survey focuses on the Council’s links with the business community and services such as business support, networking and training.

The survey is part of an ongoing dialogue with the local business community which is essential for Winchester City Council to help meet local businesses needs. It is vital that we hear from businesses across the District about what would benefit you in the future, so that we can focus our resources on the right actions.  Businesses should complete the survey by Monday 14 February.

For more information about the survey, or other areas of the Council’s work with local businesses, please contact Kate Cloud, Head of Economy and Arts on 01962 848 563 or email kcloud@winchester.gov.uk

Momentum is gathering for faster broadband

Winchester City Council and the eHampshire Partnership are seeking your views on access to broadband Internetinternet.  In order to secure better broadband speeds across our district, we need your help to complete a short survey at www.ehampshire.org/winchester/c-339

Over 1,000 replies have been received so far to help identify the strength in demand for better broadband.  The survey asks for your current internet speeds, and seeks your views on what you would pay for faster access to the World Wide Web. More feedback is needed to persuade internet providers to focus on existing not-spots.

The results of the survey will focus on the priority order of settlements demanding higher speed broadband access. The evidence that is gathered will be used to lobby those providing internet infrastructure and to provide a better service to Winchester residents and businesses.

Glenn Peacey, eHampshire Manager, encourages all Winchester residents and businesses to take part, “This survey has already been undertaken in Basingstoke, where we have worked in conjunction with Openreach (BT Group) to provide better broadband infrastructure for residents. The Winchester survey results are a vital tool for us to demonstrate to providers that there is a demand for better broadband in existing not-spots.”

You can access the survey by logging onto www.ehampshire.org/winchester/c-339 which also has a tool to measure your current broadband speed. In addition, you can email more general comments to Kate Cloud, Head of Economy and Arts at ecdev@winchester.gov.uk or telephone 01962 848 563 for more information.

Lucy Luntz at Complete Life Personal Training focuses on one to one and small group training primarily to parents and carers of young children (www.completelife.biz) The grant is helping Lucy to purchase new equipment to make sure her business can fully meet the needs of her clients.

The Council has allocated funds for start up grants as part of its recession-busting activities for the whole Winchester District. The aim is to help people who have been made redundant or are out of work to start their own business. Other measures include training, marketing, rate relief and providing jobs for the long term unemployed through the Future Jobs Fund.
