Compton and Shawford launch their
Parish Plan
Residents of Compton
and Shawford have set out a blueprint for the future of the parish over the next decade by
launching their Parish Plan. The Plan has been produced following two
years of hard work and represents the views of many residents, gathered
through open days, questionnaires and discussion with young people. A copy
of the Plan can be found via the Winchester City Council website here
Winchester City Council and other voluntary and
statutory organisations will now focus their efforts on working with the
Parish Council to help achieve the aspirations set out in the
Plan.
The City Council encourages all parishes to develop a parish
plan of their own. For more information about parish plans, or to discuss
starting one in your own parish, please contact Steve Lincoln, Community
Planning Manager, on 01962 848110 or by e-mail slincoln@winchester.gov.uk.

Hampshire Home
Choice Winchester City Council is changing the way in
which it allocates social housing to anyone applying for housing or to
transfer: Hampshire Home
Choice is the new choice based lettings system that will
be live in Spring 2009.

The
government has asked all local councils to introduce a new method of
letting social housing that incorporates choice for the applicants by
2010. In order to meet the legal requirement for allocations of social
housing as set out in Part VI of the Housing Act 1996, amended by the
Homelessness Act 2002, Hampshire Home Choice is being introduced by
Winchester City Council.
The housing team have now sent out the
first wave of letters in relation to the Hampshire Home Choice Scheme and,
as such, the consultation process is now officially underway. For

Halloween with the Community Safety
Partnership
On Friday 31st October: Police including PCSOs
and Specials, Fire crews, Neighbourhood Wardens, ACSOs and members of WCC
will deploy to selected target locations across the district.
They
will then patrol in the vicinity of their deployment in mixed groups,
educating children and young persons in matters of safety and respect and
dispensing the bracelets produced for the event. Glow in the dark
bracelets embossed with the logo 'Give Respect - Get Respect' and
'Fireworks - Be Safe', will be distributed to children on the night to
promote respect (particularly towards the elderly).
There are
various initiatives that have been implemented prior to and in the lead up
to this event:
- Posters being displayed in shops indicating that no flour or eggs
will be sold to under 18's in the run up to Halloween.
- Posters and leaflets have been distributed in identified areas for
residents (particularly elderly/vulnerable residents). Local media
encouraged to print the leaflet in their papers (including 'no trick or
treat' caller poster).
- Posters and safety leaflets have been distributed to schools and
police have organised assembly/tutor visits to secondary schools prior
to half-term and on 29/30 October.
- Other targeted areas for educating the public have been identified
such as the Youth Clubs, corner stores and large supermarket type chains
by means of posters close to the event itself to provide maximum impact.
- Stores selling fireworks have received an advisory letter from the
licensing officer advising them of legislation and their
responsibilities as a seller.
