A helping
hand for Parish Plans
Winchester
City Council, East Hampshire District Council and Hampshire County Council
joined forces recently to help communities in the two districts progress
their parish plans.
A total of
eight parishes sent representatives to a surgery event, where they met with
officers of the three councils and partner organisations to take forward
ideas and projects emerging from their parish plans.
More details can be found on the Council's
website
Locally
Produced Winners
A third wave of
Winchester businesses have recently received the Hampshire Hospitality Award,
a quality marque for restaurants, bars, cafés and sandwich bars.
All the businesses taking part underwent a 'mystery shopper' assessment,
which took place over the busy summer season. The trained assessors
considered every aspect of customer service and a total of 60 businesses
in Hampshire received quality marques with 25 of these spread across the
Winchester District. Lainston House Hotel at Sparsholt received the top
rating of superior quality award, as well as picking up a local produce
marque in recognition of their use of ingredients grown in the hotel's
kitchen garden. The Thomas Lord pub at West Meon, who source over 90% of
their produce locally, also received a local produce marque.
For a full list of businesses who have achieved an award contact Winchester's
own award-winning tourist information centre on 01962 840 500 or email: tourism@winchester.gov.uk. There
is also a list on our tourism website - Hampshire
Hospitality Award. Happy eating!
The
21st century business directory for Winchester
The Disc Directory, an online business directory
provider, has partnered Winchester City Council to launch a new, searchable
database of over 6,000 businesses based in the district.
The Council, which is committed to supporting local enterprise, has taken a
major step in providing a technologically advanced business directory which
offers a free listing to every business in the Winchester District.
Parish Councils in the Winchester District are encouraged to link to the
directory from their own web pages to promote the use of their local
businesses.
The Winchester City Council business directory can be accessed at www.wccbd.co.uk
Over
55's Action Forum
Following the hugely successful Older People's Information Day that took
place at the Winchester Discovery Centre last month, Winchester City Council
is now supporting the development of an 'Over 55s Action Forum' for the
district.
Feedback from the Information Day in October showed that older people
are very keen to work directly with the City Council to make sure that
resources are targeted precisely at the services and amenities that matter to
older people.
The next meeting of the forum is going to be on Tuesday 13th January 2009 at
the United Reform Church, Jewry Street, Winchester from 10.30am - 12.30. If
you would like to find out more about the over 55's action forum or to get
involved please contact Nicola Lawrence, Projects & Business Support
Officer at Winchester City Council on 01962 848497 or email nlawrence@winchester.gov.uk

Youth of Winchester (formerly Winchester Youth Council) was formed in October
2007 following on from a 'Who Runs This Place' event held at St Mary's
Stadium. Winchester City Council is working in partnership with Hampshire
County Council Children's Services (Youth Service) and secondary schools
across the district.
So far Youth of Winchester (YOW) has representatives from
Kings school
The Westgate School
Perins School
Swanmore School
Henry Beaufort School
Osborne School
Youth Action Winchester
Peter Symonds College
These young
people will be the link between the school, school council and their peers
and represent the views of young people in the Winchester District.
Meetings:
YOW
meets every half term during school time (12-3pm), for elected officers only,
but also has an open meeting (to which any young person can attend) from 5pm
- 6.15pm, every other month. By having the 'open meetings' out of school time
it will enable all young people who are interested in any of the priorities
to be involved and have their voices heard.
The meetings will be rotating around the district so that everyone has a
chance to get involved. You can find out more at http://www.winchester.gov.uk/CouncilAndDemocracy/YouthCouncil/
How to
get involved: If you want to get involved or would like more information,
please contact Nicola Lawrence at Winchester City Council on NLawrence@winchester.gov.uk or
call 01962 848497 or contact David Mackie, Winchester Youth Worker david.mackie@hants.gov.uk 01962
