Core
Strategy Preferred Option paper given go ahead for consultation Committee reports from 22 April After 6 hours of debate the councillors voted in favour of the document being put forward to the next consultation stage. The Preferred Option sets out for the first time the complete Core Strategy, including the detailed wording of policies and proposals, and the allocation of key sites across the District for development over the next twenty years. The documents will be available to view on www.winchester.gov.uk/ldfworkshops Earlier parts of the process explored possible opportunities and options for growth and change, and a wealth of information has been gathered ranging from technical studies and reports to feedback from stakeholders and the community. This information has all been influential in preparing a development strategy for the District which must comply with national and regional planning guidance. Parish
Councils will be receiving a paper copy of the Core Strategy preferred option
in due course. A series of exhibitions have been arranged around the District to inform the community of the content and role of the Core Strategy. At the exhibitions Officers will be available to answer questions about the Core Strategy or the LDF in general. The details of dates, times and venues are listed below:
After this
consultation your comments will be considered by the City Council along with
other responses received and the results of the Sustainability Appraisal and
evidence base studies, which will inform the preparation of the next stage of
the Core Strategy, the 'pre-submission' version due to be consulted on end
2009.
The Winchester Sports Festival is a free fun event for all the family and offers a great opportunity to compete in activities and events, try out a wide range of sports, find out about local teams and clubs and how to get involved. The sports on offer include football, mini-squash, American football, volleyball, judo, athletics, fun run, a climbing wall and Europe's longest inflatable assault course. Former Saints player and coach, Jason Dodd and Olympic 400m runner, Iwan Thomas, will be running taster coaching sessions and raising awareness of the Sprint-Start Sports Foundation, a local charity based in Eastleigh. The Stadium will be officially opened at 2.30pm by Olympic Team GB Marathon runner, Liz Yelling. The
Winchester Sports Festival is free and takes place at the Winchester Sports
Stadium at Bar End, Winchester (SO23 0QA) from 10am-4pm. A range of food and
drink will be available throughout the day with parking at the
nearby St Catherine's Park and Ride (SO23 9NP). Winchester's award winning tourist information centre will be undergoing a major refurbishment from Monday 20 April for four weeks. The project will lead to improvements based on customer feedback, including the way the centre displays free information for visitors; the availability of locally produced souvenirs, and a dedicated 'backstage' area for dealing with the ever-increasing number of email enquiries received during the summer months.
The temporary information centre will be open from 10am
to 5pm Monday to Saturday and can be contacted on tel 01962 840 500, email tourism@winchester.gov.uk or via the website
at www.visitwinchester.co.uk |
