We asked, people responded, do you agree?

A huge Thank You to everyone who took part in the first stage of 'Live for the Future' by attending one of our many events, or by filling in a questionnaire either on paper or on-line.

We had some great input from residents, organisations and young people in the district and want to share some of their thoughts with you below. If you want to know more about our community consultation then have a look at our Live for the Future webpages

This newsletter also includes updates of the next steps and how you can keep involved in the process that is shaping your community.

The main areas that people wanted us to plan for and act on over the next 20 years were.

  • More affordable housing so families and young people can stay in the area
  • More accessible and reliable public transport
  • More local job opportunities to reduce commuting
  • Eco buildings and carbon neutral new developments
  • Low density and traditional housing
  • Better cycle routes that link places
  • Infrastructure to be provided when developments are built and not added at a later stage

Young people also gave us some interesting insights.

"I think they should stop building things on nature"

"I like being near to a park, country park, shopping centre - I love all the availability - I can walk from my house"

    "Houses are too expensive"

"Too much traffic - one way system. Need to be more eco friendly"

    Community Strategy and the LDF

Closely linked to the LDF is Winchester District's Community Strategy.  This sets out a vision for a sustainable district and what we can all do to make this a reality.  The LDF will help deliver the spatial aspects of the Strategy, so the two are being developed together and will be reviewed alongside each other.

Visit the Winchester District Strategic Partnership website to read the Community Strategy and to find out what work is being done to deliver it and what part you can play.
