| Introduction |

Welcome to the first issue of the new
Winchester District Housing and Community Planning
News.
It contains information on up and coming housing developments,
community planning and housing services for residents of the
District. We hope that it will be of interest to you.
There is lots of excellent work going on across the District and
this newsletter offers an opportunity to share information and
promote the good work that is happening and the positive effects
that it is having on the lives of residents. Please let us know what
you think of the newsletter and how it could be improved.
Also let us know of any subjects that you think should be included
in future issues. I hope you find it useful and informative.

| New homes for Swanmore and Littleton
Residents |
|
HARAH has built 14 new homes for
local people in in need of housing in Swanmore, South East
Hampshire. The homes at Dodds Lane comprise 10 family-sized houses
and four one-bed flats. For more details see the HARAH

Twelve new homes for local people in housing
need have been built at Paddock View in Littleton. More details are
available at the HARAH
website.

| Largest affordable housing scheme for a decade
on the horizon |
|
Winchester City Council, in
partnership with Swaythling Housing Society and developers Parsons
and Joyce Contractors Ltd, is pleased to unveil plans to build the
largest affordable housing scheme involving Council-owned land, for
over a decade. The site is located to the rear of Willis Waye in
a semi-rural location straddling the Parishes of both Kings Worthy
and Headbourne Worthy on the outskirts of Winchester. Find out more

| Community Planning |
|
Fourteen of the District’s
forty-seven parishes are now involved with a community plan – seven
of which have published their completed plan and are implementing
the projects identified in their plan. A further three
neighbourhoods within the City of Winchester are also underway with
their own plan. Details of the communities involved in
community planning can be found on here.
Highlights during the past three months
include:
- Official opening of the new public car park in New Alresford -
the main project that emerged from the Town Health Check and
funded by SEEDA as a result of the Health Check (more
details)
- Public meetings in Stanmore to discuss issues emerging from
the community plan, attended by agencies and more than 150
residents (more details on the Stanmore
Combined website).
- Residents of St Barnabas ward have decided to develop a joint
community plan for Weeke, Teg Down and Harestock.
- Steering Groups formed in Denmead and Hambledon to start work
on a parish plan.
- Interest in a parish plan expressed by Hursley, Headbourne
Worthy and Curdridge.

| New Services for Older
Persons |
|
Three new services for the district aimed specifically at older
people have recently been launched. They are:
The Gardening
Service, launched in July 2009, to assist Winchester
District residents over the age of 60 to maintain their gardens
(more
details).
- The Handypersons Service for Winchester
District. This started operating in June 2009 and provides a
low cost minor home repairs service for disabled people and people
aged over 60 years (more
details).
- The Re-ablement service assists people who
are moving out of hospital and are not yet ready to go
home. It also assists those who are in their home but need a
period of time in a sheltered scheme, stepping up the care
required (more
details).

| Telecare Assessment Flat |
|
Winchester City Council have kitted
out a flat with one of their Extra Care schemes for professionals
and potential users of telecare, to come along and try out the
equipment before they decide if it is right for them. The types
of equipment available to try are bed sensors, falls detectors and
flood alerts.

| New affordable homes expected in
2010 |
|
Winchester City Council works closely with registered social
landlords, the Homes and Communities Agency, developers and
landowners to provide much needed new affordable housing. Over the
next year many new homes will be finished in communities such as
South Wonston, Micheldever, Bishops Waltham, Waltham Chase, Knowle,
Hambledon and Waterlooville (more
details). |

News |

The Council produces three
newsletters each year for Winchester City Council tenants and
leaseholders. The next edition with be distributed to tenant
and leaseholders during the last week in March and the first week in
April. Previous editions can be found on the Council
Website here.

| Recent Planning
Proposals |
Planning application received for
2000 new homes (includes 800 affordable homes) at Barton Farm, north
of Winchester. A decision is likely to be taken on the
proposal in the spring. Full details can be found at the Winchester City Council planning

Planning application has been received
for 'Freemans Yard' in Cheriton. This is for 20 units,
where 6 will be affordable. Full details available on the Winchester City Council planning
portal. |
