Alresford
wins cash to put Pedestrians first
Alresford Town Partnership (ATP) has successfully bid for
£111,000 of SEEDA Small Rural Towns funding to improve parking and footpaths
in the town.
The work planned with this funding will allow more long-term car parking
spaces at Perins School. It is intended that these will free up the
short-term parking spaces in the town centre. It will also include parking
meters through which new and existing parking can be effectively managed.
This will allow more shoppers and visitors to park and to enjoy the benefits
of the varied shops and other services available in Alresford. The other half
of the project is the construction of a surfaced footpath through Perins
School grounds, linking with the residential area to the south of the school.
This will make it easier and safer for residents, both young and old, to
access the town centre on foot.

LEADing
the way to Success!
Winchester and East Hampshire districts have
successfully led a local bid for just
over £2 million of funding from SEEDA, the regional development agency.
The bid was submitted by the Fieldfare Local Action Group, supported by
officers on both councils, and chaired by Sir James Scott of Rotherfield
Park, East Tisted. The group got together in June 2007 in order to plan their
bid to SEEDA for funding from the LEADER programme which is designed to
support rural economies and communities.
The Fieldfare bid picked five themes under which the money will be spent:
- To facilitate agricultural and forestry / woodland
business development and diversification
- To support the regeneration of rural communities
- To develop a quality rural tourism offer
- To provide enterprise and skills development for small
rural businesses
- To enhance the value of the physical environment
These themes are
underpinned by the cross cutting issue of sustainability, which every project
will need to demonstrate before it is funded.
If you have a project which fits under one or more of the themes above, you
might be eligible to bid for funds of up to £50,000. For information click
here or email Kate Crawford or Mike
Gibbs
All potential applicants should note that no funding can
be given until the final contract is agreed with SEEDA.
