Hampshire Senate
Winchester City Council is a member of the Hampshire Senate set up by Cllr Ken Thornber, leader of Hampshire County Council. The Senate is a voluntary partnership made up of the Leaders of all the district Councils including the County Council, the Chairmen of Hampshire Police and Fire Authorities and the Hampshire Primary Care Trust along with the Chairman of the Hampshire Association of Local Councils and representatives of the Hampshire Economic Partnership, Hampshire Strategic Partnership, Voluntary and Commmunity Sector, the Regional Development Agency and the Armed Forces.
Senate Objectives
- Deliver the Local Area Agreement for Hampshire
- Bring people together to keep government as local as possible
- Add value to, and reduce the costs of, public service through working with all the public services and partners
- Act as a strong united voice for all of Hampshire
- Secure extra government funding for our infrastructure needs
The Leader of Winchester City Council and Winchester's representative at the Senate, Councillor George Beckett states, "I am pleased that the senate has been established to bring together public service providers who have the opportunity to work in partnership in order to improve efficiency and to investigate ways joint working may improve services and save taxpayers' money. The senate will provide a valuable base for these discussions"
