It's not rubbish - recycle it

It's Not Rubbish - Recycle it!

The Council is facing a serious challenge and as part of Project Integra is looking for ways to improve the recycling collection service. We need your help to increase the amount of waste recycled and reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill.

Last year we collected over 6,000 tonnes of household waste for recycling. However, the Government has set Winchester's residents a new target to recycling over double this amount.

Help us to meet this challenge by making the best use of the recycling service we currently provide.

Kerbside Collection Scheme

Winchester City Council provide a fortnightly collection of recyclables from all domestic properties in the district.

Recycling bins are provided free of charge. If you do not already have a recycling bin and would like one, please contact using the details above.

We are able to collect:

  • Newspapers & Magazines
  • Catalogues
  • Directories (not Yellow Pages)
  • Other Clean Paper (Not Shredded)
  • Envelopes (inc window)
  • Card and Cardboard (inc boxes, cereal packets, greetings cards and junk mail)
  • Plastic bottles (inc fizzy drinks, milk, fruit juice, squash, household cleaners and detergents)
  • Food and drinks cans ( inc beer, soft drinks, soup, vegetable, fruit, baked beans and pet food)

Before you place the items into the recycling bin please:

  • Remove lids from plastic bottles
  • Rinse out cans and plastic bottles

Your recyclables will be collected fortnightly on the same day as your refuse. Place your recycling bin or carrier bags out by 7.00 with your refuse bin. The bin must not be left on the public footpath except on the day of collection.

If you disabled or infirm and have difficulty in putting you bins out for collection then please contact us for assistance.

Winchester City Council is a partner in Project Integra - Hampshire's integrated waste management strategy for the next 25 years. Please visit the Project Integra Website for further information.
