Community Strategy
Welcome to this updated version of the Winchester District Community Strategy. We hope you agree that it sets out the most important changes which need to happen over the next 20 years to help our communities become more 'sustainable'. This means that we carry on improving quality of life for everyone - but in a way that leaves a good legacy for future generations.
This Strategy has been written to guide the efforts of all the people and organisations in the district and that's a very tall order! The reason we think it will work is that when people really consider the future they want for their communities, almost everyone can agree on the basics. This Strategy sets out a shared vision based on our understanding of what people really want their local area to be like in 20 years time
To make that vision a reality, everyone has to play their part - individuals, families, and organisations both large and small. We hope this Strategy will help people to do what they can to help, but we welcome feed back and comments as we go along. The Strategy will be further updated in 2008 and your views will be taken into account as it evolves.

Latest Updates:
Winchester - towards our future
Winchester is a living community, and like all such communities it will continually evolve. But in doing so it must not lose its unique identity. We - the people who live and work in Winchester - must ensure we build on our strengths: our heritage, our culture, our people. We must tackle our weaknesses: traffic congestion, lack of facilities, pressures for more affordable housing or inappropriate development.
