Registering a birth
Every birth in England and Wales has to be registered, within 6 weeks, with the Register Office covering the district where the birth occurred. This is usually done on the personal attendance of the parent(s). Registration is by appointment and each register office will be able to advise you further.
The registration will formally record the birth and allow certificates to be produced for legal purposes and to register with a doctor's surgery.
The Winchester Register Office is found at Station Hill, Winchester, SO23 8TJ.

Hampshire Registration Offices can register a birth anywhere in the county other than Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.
The webpages on the County Council website include answers to frequently asked questions and details of registration fees.
You can also book an appointment to register a birth online.
