Statement of Community Involvement
The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out the Council's policy for engaging the community on the different types of documents in the Local Development Framework and also major planning applications.
Adoption of the SCI
The Council adopted the SCI on the 25th January 2007. All Local Development Documents prepared by the Council will need to follow the procedures for consultation and engagement set out in this document.

Examination Stage
The Statement was submitted to the Secretary of State in August 2006. Representations were invited on the Statement between 31 August and 12 October 2006.

View representations on the Submission Statement of Community Involvement
An independent Inspector appointed by the Planning Inspector undertook an assessment of the submitted SCI in November 2006. This involved the testing of the document against 9 tests of soundness. During the assessment, the council was asked by the Inspector for a view on the representations that had been made during the submission consultation.
In giving that view, the council suggested how the submitted document could be amended to meet many of the concerns of those who had responded.
The Council received the Inspector's Report on 11th December. In his report the Inspector agreed that the council's suggested changes should be made in order to add clarity and aid understanding. He also recommended some additional wording of his own. The Inspector's recommendations are binding.
Submission Consultation
As stated above, a formal period of public consultation was undertaken for a period of 6 weeks on the submission version of the SCI. As part of this consultation the following documents were published:-
