Corporate Director - Governance

The Governance Groups' Director Stephen Whetnall, oversees professional administrative and legal services in support of the Council's activities, including the management of the Council's committee system.

The Democratic services team also deal with the day to day management of elections and electoral registration, various local licensing matters and local land charges (including searches carried out in respect of all house purchases within the district) and oversees the support services to the Mayoralty.

The group also manages the finance of the council and deals with the collection of revenues and the distribution of benefits. The council's Information Management and Technology team is also part of this department along with the management of the council's estates and buildings.

Stephen Whetnall is also the statutory "monitoring officer" for the Authority, which involves a duty to advise and report on any action which could be unlawful or beyond the Council's powers, and also the Electoral Registration Officer and the Returning Officer for all tiers of Government and Local Government elections.
